If someone puts your site’s URL in their site then it is referred as Backlink. Usually your site gets ranked according to the number of backlinks it has. If you are site has gained lots of backlinks then search engine spiders will assume that your site is popular as your site as good number of backlinks, so your site will get a good rankings in Search Engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing etc. Page Rank also depends on these backlinks. So, while optimizing your site for search engine don’t focus only on keywords, title and meta tags, also try to get more backlinks.

How to get Backlinks

Usually, when people visit your website,  if they like your site, and if they have a site that is related to your site’s content then there are chances for them to share your site’s URL with their site’s visitors. This is how you get backlinks, but this will going to take a long time. Until your site is famous you are not going to get your backlinks. Web masters try to gain backlinks for SEO and the reason they do SEO is to make their website popular through Search Engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing etc. If they are going to get backlinks only after getting popular then what’s the use of getting backlinks and doing SEO?

So, forgot those normal ways, let’s do something different to get backlinks.

1. Share your page on Social Media

Sharing your page on social media is really easy to get backlinks. The famous social media in internet, is Facebook with 500 million users and twitter with 100+ million users. If you have an account in these social networks then start sharing your articles and pages. If you are not a member of these social media then you have to register for a new account, they are worth registering. This will be very useful for bloggers.

You will get better results you have share your articles and pages in do-follow social media.

2. Make Videos on youtube

Don’t only write articles, start speaking on Youtube. Youtube is the next popular website after Facebook, it has ranked #3 on alexa. Do some High Definition videos and upload them to youtube. I suggest you to upload High Definition because people prefer only watching a High Definition videos, I have experienced the traffic stats difference between the video of high definition and low definition. In your videos and video description, don’t forget to include your site’s URL. So when people watch your videos on youtube they will get an interest to visit your site atleast once, this builds your site’s traffic if your video gets more number of views. Google your Videos name + your channel, you can see various website, that has your videos. In metacafe you can find your youtube video. In this way you get backlinks other websites like metacafe.

3. Make use of Article Directories

You have to work little harder to get backlinks through article directories because you are going to write articles for other websites or as an open source. Write articles and submit them to famous article directories. So when people read them there are chances for them to get the source of the article and put it on their website. There are websites that run only with the articles taken from these article directories. So, while writing articles for an article directory don’t forget to include your site’s URL inside the article and also don’t forget to include it on your article directory profile information. So, when people put up these articles on their website you get a backlink, you get some traffic too.

4. Submit your site to Link Directories

There are many link directories. I think open source link directory script is available on internet, and that’s the reason for birth of many link directories. These are not going to help you a lot, but you can get backlinks from these link directories. Submitting to one link directory you may gain one backlink. Remember only famous link directories are going to help you in building quality backlinks. Don’t forget to submit your site to http://www.dmoz.org

Which is a directory still moderated manually without using any BOTs.

5. Join related sites and forums

Join related forums. If your site is related to computer field then you can make use to digital point forums, which ranks at 90th spot according to alexa. If your site is not related to computer then google search your site’s topic + forum. Eg: Learning Maths + Forum

Then you will get some forums that is related to learning maths or whatever you searched. When you have found your forums, register there and start making some useful articles there and also comment on others articles. Don’t forget to include your site’s URL in signature. So everytime you post an article or comment your URL is added with it. This helps you in building traffic and backlinks.

What about Link Exchanging?

Don’t do link exchanging to get backlinks. By doing link exchange to get reciprocal links and you won’t get any backlinks. Search engine spiders are not going to count your reciprocal links, so these links are not going to help you in backlink building, but they are quite useful in traffic building.

What are Reciprocal Links?

You may get offers some web masters saying that they will place your site’s URL in their website and in return they will ask you to place their link in your site. When you link to a site and if they also link to your site, then you make a reciprocal link.

So, don’t ever ignore to build backlinks while doing Search engine optimization and also remember that backlinks from famous website are going to help your site in getting good SERP.
