The internet search Giant Google has put a hold on the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) application for some of the users. Off late many people have found it difficult to download the application and install the same for their mobile phones especially Samsung Nexus S series users. In the beginning of December it was heard that Samsung Nexus S was the first mobile device to get upgraded to ICS but then it was a sudden decision that Google stopped some of these major upgrades. Some users in spite of getting a notification for the upgrade were unable to actually get the update required.

Android 4.0 Nexus S

The community manager of Google, Paul Wilcox said:

  • If a person have received an update notification on your phone sometime ago but the update is currently not available for your phone, then it is likely to be the result of Google pausing the particular update in that area for monitoring feedback from the used customers.
  • He also mentioned that the Android 4.0 update is continuing to roll out around the world hence your phone will receive another notification when it start getting available in your region again.

The Nexus S users have reported that they are able to download the latest update for this ICS but were unable to go ahead installing the same afterwards. They also feel that monitoring feedback looks like an excuse from Google as they are not interested in publishing related to the use of release of this particular update. It is still not clear which are the areas that are being stopped as some users have reported problems using Wi-Fi and in getting network signal right from the moment they have completed the upgrade.

Reason to hold the release:

The reason that Google mentions for holding the operating system is that they need to monitor feedback from the users as the users have faced typically high battery drain after the installation of the software in their Nexus S.

The high battery drain may have been caused due to the induction of spike in processor usage and this reason may not be enough to hold all the updates worldwide but they are not ready to return with the update till Google gets satisfied that there is no further issue or customers will not face any issue after installing particular update.

The problems that the users found with the recent update and what they have been mentioning in the Google forums is that they have seen battery drain issues. It is also doubted that this particular situation must have arise due to the Kernel behind the low-level software on the device is artificially keeping the mobile device awake even when the screen itself is off, reducing the battery power more than in usual cases where the battery lost for long.

Google has not officially announced when they are planning to come back with the update again and continuing with the current situation. People are also waiting to hear more from Google’s reaction to the entire issues and how they are going to overcome the same in the future.
