If you have ever watched angel investment programs such as Dragon’s Den, you will know that most investors don’t just invest in a business. Experienced investors know that for a business to succeed, they need to be headed up by a great business person. There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to what makes a great business person, but here are a few that seem to crop up more often than not.

Business Person

Self-Motivation

No one will wake you up in the morning and no one will force you to work over time. Do you want to take Thursday off? Go for it! Do you want to finish work at 1pm because the sun is shining? No problem! Just remember that this is not how most successful business owners operate. Successful business owners worry about not having enough hours to finish individual tasks, rather than constantly worrying about finishing early or working towards days off. You need to have the ability to be self-motivated, even on your very worst days.

Creativity

Creativity is skill that all great business owners have; it just might not be that obvious. Each business owner has their own way of visualising. Some business owners are not necessarily creative in the ways most people think; they do not paint or design logos.

Instead, they are creative in the way they get tasks done. They outsource to save money. They delegate in order to make the work place more productive. Most of all, they have a clear vision of what they want to create and they use their mind to figure out how they can create it.

Persistency

The majority of start up business owners fail within a few months. Even the best business owners in the world have had their bad days; many have even got completely bust. The thing that separates a business owner from a successful business owner is the ability and the desire to be persistent. How do they do it? They believe in themselves, or they believe in their next big idea.

Respectful

Respect is something that is hard to obtain yet easy to lose. Those that are successful will not just have earned a lot of respect, but will have given lots of respect to the people that they have worked with and listened to. Every business owner can learn something new every single day, so it is important to respect people’s opinions and draw from them what you deem to be important.

Finance Orientated

This is not to say that every single successful business owner is a mathematician. That being said, most quality company owners will have a handle on their company’s finance. If they don’t there is no way they can understand where there company is now and what is realistically possible for the future.

Cash flow is king, so it is important that business owners know everything there is to know about the finances within their operation. This is why you will find that the majority of tycoons in the world like to take about finances. Of course, they are usually aided by a point of sale which automates many of the mathematical calculations, making interpretation much easier.
